Trip difficulty

Every Cliffora adventure is rated on a six-level scale so you can pick a trip that matches your fitness, experience and appetite for adventure.

Level 1

Easy

Relaxed day trips for anyone who enjoys being outdoors. Expect 2–3 hours of light activity — gentle wadi walks, easy swims in turquoise pools, cultural stops in Muscat or a sunset on the dunes. No prior experience needed; just comfortable shoes and a sense of curiosity.

Level 2

Easy–Moderate

A small step up for travellers who want to be a bit more active. Around 3–4 hours of activity per day — wadi hikes with light scrambling, beginner sport climbing, snorkelling sessions, or a short via ferrata. Basic fitness and willingness to get your feet wet are enough.

Level 3

Moderate

For people who keep generally active. 4–5 hours of steady effort on hot rocky terrain — longer wadi hikes, intro canyoning with short abseils, multi-pitch sport climbing, or e-biking through the mountains. Comfort with heat and uneven ground helps a lot.

Level 4

Moderate–Challenging

Picks up the pace with longer days, typically 5–7 hours outdoors in the Hajar mountains. Bigger canyoning days with multiple abseils, sustained sport climbing routes, exposed ridge hikes like the Balcony Walk. You should be regularly active and comfortable in heat and on rope under guidance.

Level 5

Challenging

Back-to-back active days of 7–8 hours in remote Omani terrain — full canyon descents with big abseils, long ridge hikes with significant elevation gain, deep water solo sessions on sea cliffs, advanced caving. You should be fit, confident on rope (rappel and belay), and used to long days outside.

Level 6

Tough

Our most demanding trips, for experienced mountain athletes only. 8–15 hours of moving each day in committing terrain — 12 km canyons like Umq Bir, 15-hour cave through-trips with 100+ m pitches, summits of Oman's highest peaks like Jebel Shams (3,009 m) with 1,500 m of gain. You must be very fit and fully confident on abseil. Not for first-timers.
